As you all probably know, MTV aired the Video Music Awards on Sunday night September 13th. The Best Female Video went to Taylor Swift. This was Swift's first ever VMA since the start of her music career. For Taylor Swift, this was a huge accomplishment, and it was one of the happiest moments in her entire life. It was a huge milestone being that she was the first country artist to ever win a VMA. As she proceeded to give her acceptance speech, Kanye West came up and took the microphone from her screaming into it about how Beyonce Knowles had the best video of the decade and should have taken the award.
This morning, Taylor Swift made an appearance on "The View" aired on ABC. During the talk show she spoke about the MTV Video Awards incident with Kanye West. She said that she was a bit rattled and disappointed however, she never said anything negative about Kanye West. Taylor Swift is the type of person that doesn't speak badly about people even if they wrong her. She simply just writes songs about them. She is too kind for words. Taylor also spoke of how truly blessed she was to have such wonderful people in her life. She said that she was utterly grateful to all of her fans who had her back on twitter, myspace, and facebook. She told the hosts of "The View" that if Kanye West were to apologize to her than she would gladly accept, move on, and be perfectly okay with him in any future encounters.
Last night on "The Jay Leno Show", Kanye West was interviewed in an attempt for a public apology. However, he did everything but apologize. He sort of rambled on about different, random things and ended with saying that he simply got distracted from what he always dreamt the MTV awards should be like.
I was shocked and appaled by Kanye West's behavior towards Taylor Swift. She has worked so hard for everything that she has accomplished. She isn't your average country artist. She gets along with everybody. She loves everyone for who they are and is sincerely proud of them and their accomplishments. Perhaps that is why she was the first country artist to ever win a Video Music Award. It's a damn shame that her memory of one of her highest, proudest accomplishments will be of Kanye West yelling in a microphone saying she didn't deserve it.

I didn't watch Taylor on The View but heard all about all over the news! Kanye was completely in the wrong for doing what he did to Taylor. I was fortunate enough to catch Jay Leno Show and Kanye's apology SUCKED! Like you said, he completely rambled on and on but hardly an apology. It seems to me that Kanye doesn't think before he speaks.. he just speaks; and therefore, he has to reap what he sowed in the days to come (since this is obviously not the first time he made a fool of himself). I found that he was sincerly apologetic towards the situation, but not to Taylor.
ReplyDeleteI never knew who Taylor Swift was until this incident because I don't follow country music at all but from what you have blogged she sounds like a really kool person to hang out with.
ReplyDeleteGood blog clarissa! Ive never been a Kayne fan and now i just can't stand him. The way he would hurt a 19 year old is just rediculous, she should have had her chance to enjoy her moment!
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy how fast both of them did interviews on major talk shows. I wonder if either of them planned to be on the shows before, or if it was a last minute thing.
ReplyDeleteDespite Kanye's rudeness at the VMAs, Taylor will come out the winner because she's been graceful, not catty, and gotten a lot of good media exposure. Kanye actually did her a favor!
